Downey, after a spell in England last season, has been in terrific form since joining the Premier League ranks and his coach Mark Scannell is disappointed to be missing such an influential player.

In the Women’s Premier National Cup champions UL Huskies should have too much firepower for Ulster Rockets but coach James Weldon believes no team can be taken for granted.

“We will be strong favourites to advance but in this competition you have to very careful that complacency doesn’t set in,” Weldon said.

DCU Mercy, fresh from their league win over Singleton’s Supervalu Brunell welcome the same opposition to the DCU complex.

Brunell led for three quarters of the league clash but a terrific fourth quarter from DCU saw them grind out a 12 point win.

Despite that loss Brunell coach Kieran O’Leary believes his team can make a bold bid for the semi final.

“DCU are an excellent team but I am planning different strategies that will give them food for thought,” O’Leary said.

Team Montenotte coach Paul Kelleher reports a fully fit squad for the visit of Meteors to Upper Glanmire where a home win looks highly likely.

The sole game in the Men’s Premier League sees joint leaders UCC Demons host UCD Marian at the Mardyke Arena on Sunday,
